My mental problem

My mentor started a sentence with "Your mental problem is that you...".

I should have explained to him how that is not the appropriate terminology for conveying the message he was trying to get across.

I didn't.

He was trying to explain how he thought I was not doing a clear job of linking two concepts together in my paper and that he also didn't like the fact that I was using hyphens for compound adjectives because it looked weird to him. My "mental" problem is that I worry too much about doing things the correct way (I'm a little bit of a perfectionist just like all of you).

"Most scientists don't know that you should hyphenate...so it looks weird to them when you use hyphens...so you shouldn't use hyphens".

I have no idea what to say to him sometimes. He really needs to be more careful about his word choice because it's going to get him into trouble someday.

Okay, so he was talking directly to you. I see.

How perfectly awful.

Want me to kick him in the shins?
