Butterflies are Hoochies

Sarahlynn posts a book review in which she discusses her frustrations with the portrayal of caterpillars in modern children's literature. I just wanted all of you to know that you don't have to morph into a butterfly to be beautiful or cool or exciting:

Stinging Rose
Waved Sphinx
Spicebush Swallowtail

Another SFTR pearl of wisdom. :)

The media and society are so focused on making us feel like if only we worked hard enough at improving/changing ourselves (pop psychology, dieting, plastic surgery, getting the latest car/clothes/sneakers, etc.), _then_ and only then we'd be worthy, beautiful, and happy.

How about just appreciating who we are now? I mean, working towards a goal is great and all, but still, our life is happening right now, and surely we can't all be a bunch of perpetual ugly ducklings that (hardly) ever reach the swan stage? Surely we do have beauty (inner and out) right now, at this very moment? Why now celebrate that and be kinder to ourselves and those around us?

Anyhoo, loved that post! :)
